This Michigan artist claims if “you like pizza or puppies or pizza puppies, you’ll probably like fthrsn.” fthrsn (pronounced “father son”) makes lo-fi bedroom pop that deftly picks up tempo mid-song. The motown/soul influenced tracks feature reflective lyrics like “I’m just a little kid who lives in my head…” Take a listen.
Beginning as a small music venture in the summer of 2012, OurDeadRadio was produced as a solution to common problems transmitted through the airwaves: tuning frustration, exhaustive pop-processing, and unoriginal repetitive top-twenty tracks. This site is dedicated to the relentless mix-makers, eclectic music junkies and compulsive indie gem scourers of the world. OurDeadRadio is a carefully selected preview of what is good and thriving and ultimately, what is rarely heard on the radio. From indie up-and-comers to dusty tracks of the past, OurDeadRadio presents what is not often produced through standard FM stations. As a cultivation of music found though blogs, local scenes, and submissions, please enjoy the sounds of OurDeadRadio.

FM 94/9’s Independence Jam was September 21st at the Junior Seau Memorial Amphitheater at the Oceanside Pier. The line-up featured Cage The Elephant, Smallpools, Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jr., American Authors, Royal Teeth, The Colourist and Dead Feather Moon. We were blown away by these artists’ live performances at the idyllic location with two stages, right on the water in Oceanside. Be sure to check out the FM 94/9 website for more local San Diego shows!

Lou’s Records, one of our favorite San Diego-based record stores, held a Labor Day sale this weekend featuring 50% off all used CDs. Total score. Lou’s has been around since 1980 and is home to an impressive collection of new and used CDs, LPs, Tapes, DVDs and other things you won’t know you need until you dive in. It’s well worth a trip to beautiful Encinitas — spend a few hours and dollars at this endearing place and score some nice music next time you’re cruising through San Diego. It’s also surrounded by amazing coffee shops and restaurants and is just a few blocks from the beach. Go check it out soon, and keep up to date with Lou’s events here.

Anticon records celebrated 15 years of great music at Anticon Weekend, an event that featured Baths, Daedelus, D33J, Sodapop and Low Limit. This summer, these artists came to the beautiful ACE Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs to showcase a refreshing dose of unconventional pop, electronic music, and DJ sets for pool-goers and Cali vacationers alike. Here’s a photo we took of Will Wiesenfeld of Baths in the Amigo Room at the hotel, creating the ideal summer soundtrack at a perfect location. Be sure to keep up with great music happenings at Anticon Records.
