“Human error on a digital platform.” That’s how 22-year-old New Yorker, Barry Kantro, describes his new analog bedroom project, Caladan. His EP, Stimuli, is messy, gloomy, and very electronic. Enamored by the sound and style of a Casitone MT-41 discovered at a Salvation Army, Kantro started recording, and has produced some raw tracks that are reminiscent of the hazy melancholic trials of early Interpol. Listen to “Inertia” now, and check out Caladan’s other tracks on Bandcamp.
We’re pretty stoked about this submission. Vieja Viajes of Cleveland Ohio is truly something different. The DIY noise pop project of Matt McCroskey released a *free* EP “Nostrils of the Holy” this summer, but we think it’s just as interesting as a winter soundtrack. Our featured track, “Que Three El Five One” begins with piercing distorted guitar, and continues with dynamic bass and layers of elevating percussion. This song is a truly unique hybrid, as McCroskey’s muffled vocals give the track a post-punk feel. His barely perceptible lyrics croon, “I’ve waited too long for your kiss, I’ve waited too long for this and I don’t want you to be another one that I miss.” Sampled pieces, including a section of dialogue, establish this song as a sonic mosaic of awesomeness. Go listen and check out the rest of Vieja Viajes on Bandcamp.
Kansas-based Seventeen Years is the new-wave solo project of Tony Freijat. Anticipating his debut EP, his label Half-Gifts submitted this new single, “Ocean Slut.” It gently expresses fluid post-punk guitar and develops a warm lo-fi fuzz. It’s catchy and vulnerable and charmingly unpolished. We hear influences from The Cure. We like. You listen:
There’s good music in Canada. You know it’s true. Meet ALVVAYS from Toronto. The four-piece group makes casually lo-fi tracks that are definitely catchy, and delicately sugary. This single, “Adult Diversion” has a nostalgic-pop feel, but also implements a moment of cool electro-fuzz that projects the track into the surf-pop genre. ALVVAYS recreates memories of sun just as winter starts to settle in, just when we need it most… Take a listen and look for their debut album in 2014.
The Reno-based duet, Surf Curse, has released a note-worthy album of lo-fi, beachy punk pop. Think Oberhofer + Wavves + a little extra grunge. This track, “Goth Babe,” is so sweet and raw and catchy: ‘I want a goth babe in my life, I want someone I can bite, I want to listen to The Cure, I want to tell you that I’m yours…’ The lyrics are playful and clever, the melody is simple and surfy. Give this track a spin and check out our other fav song, “Freaks,” from their most recent album, Buds.
Beginning as a small music venture in the summer of 2012, OurDeadRadio was produced as a solution to common problems transmitted through the airwaves: tuning frustration, exhaustive pop-processing, and unoriginal repetitive top-twenty tracks. This site is dedicated to the relentless mix-makers, eclectic music junkies and compulsive indie gem scourers of the world. OurDeadRadio is a carefully selected preview of what is good and thriving and ultimately, what is rarely heard on the radio. From indie up-and-comers to dusty tracks of the past, OurDeadRadio presents what is not often produced through standard FM stations. As a cultivation of music found though blogs, local scenes, and submissions, please enjoy the sounds of OurDeadRadio.

Anticon records celebrated 15 years of great music at Anticon Weekend, an event that featured Baths, Daedelus, D33J, Sodapop and Low Limit. This summer, these artists came to the beautiful ACE Hotel and Swim Club in Palm Springs to showcase a refreshing dose of unconventional pop, electronic music, and DJ sets for pool-goers and Cali vacationers alike. Here’s a photo we took of Will Wiesenfeld of Baths in the Amigo Room at the hotel, creating the ideal summer soundtrack at a perfect location.
